Recovery Act Limited Competition: Academic Research Enhancement Awards (R15)

Organizations must register in both Grants.gov and eRA Commons to apply for most NIH Grants. Registration can take approximately four weeks to complete. Start now!

NIBIB details for responding to the opportunity identified in Notice Number: NOT-OD-09-007

The NIBIB plans to provide funds to stimulate research in educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the Nation's research scientists, but that have not been major recipients of NIH support, using the Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) mechanism. These grants create opportunities for scientists and institutions otherwise unlikely to participate extensively in NIH programs, to contribute to the Nation's biomedical and behavioral research effort. AREA grants are intended to support small-scale health-related research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions.

Support for these grants will come from funds provided to NIH through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 ("Recovery Act" or "ARRA"), Public Law 111-5. Please refer to the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts Notice: RFA-OD-09-007 for a general description of this program. In addition to the information in the Guide Notice, below are NIBIB-specific details which should be considered in preparing a grant application to the NIBIB.

The NIBIB invites R15 applications in any of its Scientific Program Areas.

Anticipated Resources:

Applicants may request a maximum of $300,000 total direct costs plus applicable Facilities & Administrative (F&A)/indirect costs for the entire project period of up to 3 years. NIBIB expects to make approximately three awards for this program.
