Micro-biomechanics studies the relationship between the architecture and micromechanics of intracellular structures, i.e. the cytoskeleton, and the deformation, rheology, and function of cells. Examples of research topics include micromechanical studies of the durability of tissues, biomechanics of cellular adhesion, cell shape control of migration on biomaterials.
Depending on the model system of study, e.g. cardiovascular, orthopedic, etc., biomechanics proposals may be reviewed in a number of different study sections including standing study sections such as CVS and BMBI, or special emphasis panels such as MOSS-G.
Program staff recommend that principal investigators include a cover letter listing areas of scientific expertise needed to review the application and how the expertise should be balanced (please do not include names), or potential study section assignments.
