Roderic I. Pettigrew, Ph.D., M.D., director of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) accepted the 2017 Distinguished Service Medal from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) at the Society’s annual meeting on April 23, 2017, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Pettigrew offered acceptance remarks, saying that complex problems in 21st century medicine require convergence science that merges biology with engineering and the physical sciences. He said that the application of engineering in medicine offers logical and promising approaches to realizing transformative improvement in health and wellbeing globally.
