In 2010, Dr. Zhang received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Nankai University in China. Then he went to the United States and joined the laboratory of Prof. Karen Wooley at Texas A&M University in the same year. His graduate research focused on the design and development of polymeric nanoparticles constructed from amphiphilic block copolymers, especially polyphosphoester-based degradable polymers, for targeted delivery of therapeutic agents. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree in chemistry in 2015, Dr. Zhang joined NIH/NIBIB, and has since been a member of the Laboratory of Molecular Imaging and Nanomedicine (LOMIN). His current research focuses on the development of functional smart nanomaterials for therapeutics delivery.
