Dr. Vargas received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Loyola University in Maryland in 1999.  While at Loyola he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at the University of Oxford in England where he completed a D.Phil. in functional genetics.  He received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 2006 and subsequently completed internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.  He is currently a fourth year cardiology fellow at Johns Hopkins  and a clinical fellow at NIH under David Bluemke.  His current research is focused on gaining a better understanding of cardiovascular disease by combining state of the art genetic sequencing techniques with advanced non-invasive cardiovascular imaging.
