Talented bacteria detect cancer, diabetes

Los Angeles Times reported on two studies in which researchers used synthetic biology and whole-cell biosensors to detect biomarkers of disease. One approach detected elevated glucose in patients' urine and the other signaled early stage liver cancer in mice.
