TRAINING & CAREERS
Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSA) for Individual Predoctoral Fellows (Parent F31)
NIBIB uses the F31 grant mechanism to support outstanding predoctoral students who are engaged in a course of research and study that will result in rigorous, broadly based bioengineering or bioimaging training. Applicants for F31 awards are strongly encouraged to contact Dr. Zeynep Erim before they begin to prepare their application, as NIBIB will consider only those applications that are designed to support the training and development of researchers with interests relevant to the mission of NIBIB. Priority will be given to F31 applications with primary sponsors who are currently supported by NIBIB research grants. NIBIB does not support the PhD training of individuals in dual-degree programs (such as MD-PhD) with the F31. Individuals in such programs should consider the F30. Support will be provided for a maximum of 2 years. In addition, applicants must have completed their main coursework, passed their qualifying exam, and be ready to engage in full-time research by the start date of the award in order to receive support.
