Mr. Cheetham provides expertise in the area of international scientific engagement and strategic planning, and serves as the principal point of contact to address program inquiries related to international programs.

Prior to NIBIB, Mr. Cheetham worked at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) as the Associate Director for International and Security Affairs and the Director of the International Science and Technology (INSTP) program. The focus of his efforts was on creating mutually beneficial international research collaborations, facilitating technology commercialization, and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in STEM areas.

While at AAAS, Mr. Cheetham also served as the head of the U.S. office for the Indo-U.S. Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF). The IUSSTF is a private foundation created to stimulate collaborative research efforts among government, industry, and academia by making grants to teams of U.S. and Indian investigators. Also at AAAS, he headed the U.S.-India Science & Technology Endowment Fund (USISTEF), a $30 million applied R&D and technology commercialization fund with a portfolio of joint ventures covering the spectrum of clean energy, IT-enabled services, and health care delivery.

Mr. Cheetham has over 20 years of experience building and managing international partnerships in science and technology, with an exclusive focus for 10 years on energy and environment. Prior to joining AAAS he has worked at the Smithsonian Institution, The National Academies, the Institute for International Education, and the Atlantic Council of the United States.
