Winona Nice

Biography

Dr. Winona Nice serves as a program director at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). With a background in surgical navigation, image guidance, and computer vision, Dr. Nice manages the Image-Guided Interventions Program in the Division of Applied Science and Technology.

She holds a B.S.E. in biomedical engineering and computer science from Tulane University and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University. In her doctoral work, she built an image-guidance system for breast cancer surgery and focused on leveraging computer vision for intraoperative data collection. Before joining NIBIB in 2026, Dr. Nice was a senior staff research scientist at PolarisAR where she developed an orthopedic surgery navigation platform in augmented reality.
