1 The percentile payline applies to R01 applications submitted to parent R01 Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs). Other percentiled and non-percentiled R01 applications are select pay. The percentile payline for new investigator R01 applications submitted to parent R01 FOAs is 5% higher, i.e. 21%. See policy at New investigator Funding Policy.

2  The NIBIB Expanded Opportunity Zone (EOZ) policy allows selected funding for some applications with percentile scores beyond the payline. Criteria are outlined at EOZ

No fixed payline exists for R21 awards. R21 applications received under PAR-18-433 and PAR-20-084 are considered for funding on a case-by-case basis based on programmatic considerations.

No fixed payline exists for R03, R15, P41, and U01 awards. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis based on programmatic considerations.

5  No fixed payline exists for F, K, T32, SBIR, and STTR grants. A limited number of awards are available for highly meritorious applications. Funding decisions are also based on programmatic considerations and available funds.
