The Board, through periodic review, advises the Scientific Director, Division of Intramural Research, NIBIB, on the quality of the intramural research programs and the research of tenured and tenure-track scientists of the Division.

Structure

The Board consists of eight members, including the chair, who are approved by the Deputy Director for Intramural Research at NIH. Members are scientists with outstanding scientific credentials in the research areas relevant to the Institute and are drawn from outside the NIH to serve overlapping terms of up to five years.

Function

The Board advises the Scientific Director, Division of Intramural Research, NIBIB, on the quality of the intramural research programs and the research of tenured and tenure-track scientists of the Division, through periodic reviews. The recommendations of the Board are addressed to the Scientific Director and sent to the Director, NIBIB, the Deputy Director for Intramural Research, and the Director, NIH.

Authority

Established January 25, 1991, by the Director, NIH, under Section 402(b)(6) of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 282(b)(6)), as amended. The Board of Scientific Counselors is governed by the provisions of Public Law 92-463, as amended (5 U.S.C. Appendix 2).
