Analysis of de-identified data

De-identified data sent to federal health systems using standardized reporting specifications are rich in information that can be used to assess:

Number of positive, negative, unsatisfactory and invalid tests (OBX[1]-5.1) stratified by combinations of:

  • Date of test (SPM-17.1)
  • Patient location (by zip code) (PID-11.5)
  • Patient age (OBX[2]-5)
  • Patient sex (PID-8)
  • Patient race (PID-10.1)
  • Patient ethnicity (PID-22.1)
  • Presence of symptoms (OBX[3]-5)
  • Date of symptom onset (OBX[4]-5)
  • Number of tests taken by patient (count of unique MSH-3.2 + PID-3.1)
  • Type of test performed (OBR-4.1)
  • Application used during test interpretation (MSH-3.1)

Analysis of identified data

Identified data sent to state health systems will permit the same analysis of de-identified data, plus information that would support contact tracing such as patient name, address, and phone number.
